Why am I still sub-prime?!

If I was an Alcoholic and I had to go to one of those meetings would I rather have some di*k who's left university with a degree in alcoholism who drinks once a week at the meeting or an alcoholic who's been their and done it and suffered the detox etc and the problems they've suffered I'm for the Alcoholic personally as they know the score.
So for me izools he's been bankrupt and I'm sure he's the best one to give advice for especially for bankrupts who think bankrupts mean no more credit as obviously in izools case bankruptcy doesn't mean this.
IF I didn't have yellow cards pasted everywhere I would of went into one at Mr Upset but he's NOT worth getting another infraction for.0 -

I have a vanquis card and I felt the same way. When I got a replacement card I peeled off the "To activate this card call 08..." sticker from the middle of the card and stuck it over the VANQUIS logo and fits perfectly over it in the top corner of the card
I never feel embarrassed anymore. Now that everywhere is chip&pin and vendors are looking at a screen it would be unusual for them to look closely at what card someone is using. As a retailer I can tell you that only the card type comes up on the screen when you put it into the reader, so instead of Vanquis card it just says VISA. :j 0 -

As a retailer myself, I usually have a look at what cards people have, (sticking my nose in ) Most people seem to have a barclays debit card these days..
One lady came to my till and she had a capital one secure card, just like me, I felt like laughing at the time. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:£1600 saved in bank, target 20K by 1st march 2014.

Thanks everyone.
And next time I'm made redundant and find my house has lost £30K in value thanks to the crash and is consequently in negative equity I'll just arrange for my JSA to be paid straight to my mortgage lender and starve.
Clearly Mr Upset thinks this would have been the better option than being honest with the bank and giving the keys back and subsequently clearing over a third of the debt included in the BR order once I found work by way of an income payments agreement.
If having been bankrupt due to reasons beyond my control was such a stupid thing to happen and such a high risk then I'd have had trouble obtaining credit since, right? I guess that means I could never have a prime bank account, prime credit cards, and a mortgage with what most brokers consider to be one of the strictest lenders on the market, right?
Oh, wait. I have all that. And it's all run perfectly.
I guess it would make employers run for the hills, too, right? Not making myself starve to satisfy Santander's mortgage terms? Oh, wait, I hold a respectable position within the NHS being a critical out of ours contact point for every hospital and doctors surgery in the nation in case of equiptment or system failures. And am well respected both within my post and office and in general.
And such a disgraceful person could never be a suitable partner, could they? Oh, wait, I've been in a stable relationship for over seven years now taking care of and providing for my disabled partner who can never work again.
Hmm. How much of that have you achieved in your personal life, Mr Upset? Do you any such admirable traits?
Or are you just a gobby c**t who can't stand to see someone who has fallen so low rise so much higher than you in such a comparatively short space of time?
I've always said, you can't judge a man by how tall he stands, but by how far he has climbed, having fallen.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

All this arguing, point scoring and talk of alcoholism has driven me to cracking open a beer - if like me you have read the thread up until this point without opening a beer, you're a far stronger person than me.
Alright lads? Calm down, calm down.

Well thanks for that, it was... enlightening. I think I'll just pay off the vanquis and get a card for OH's account with nationwide. Better interest and I get one that says "Mrs." Yay.
Thank you for all the helpful advice.0 -
Glad it was at least entertaining

Hi
In 2011 I declared myself bankrupt (Vanquis were one of my creditors) I was discharged in March 2012.
Due to my work I travel a couple of times a month & have been paying my hotel bills in cash & claiming it back on expenses at the end of each month.
A couple of months ago I applied for the barclaycard 'Initial' & should add that my credit history is less than poor - OK everything is showing as settled on my CRF's due to the bankruptcy, but that's just a formality - I reckon my credit score would be less than 100 at best if I were to check it!
I now manage my money very well & a couple of accounts I have are recorded with the CRA's each month - all in good order - having said that there are 12 defaulted accounts on there & 1 CCJ which, although showing as settled, will still be on my files for another 3 years.
My point is that I was accepted for the barclaycard 'initial' without any issues at all - I didn't get an instant answer, the answer came by email about 5 days after making my application.
OK, it's a low limit to start with (mine is £250) but it's enough for me to book & pay for my hotels when working away. The limit is reviewed & can rise to £2,500.
Hope this helps if you're adamant about wanting to change cards0 -

There is spattered anecdotal evidence that suggests Barclaycard are loosening up their criteria these days.
They used to be adamant about not accepting applicants who have ever been bankrupt for any of their cards full stop - they even wrote so on their website.
But yet just recently a friend of mine who has three un-satisfied defaults, one for over £10,000 only two years ago and a CCJ for the same amount from only 18 months ago was also just accepted for a Barclaycard Initial.
And two other people I know have been accepted for Barclaycard Platinum cards with seemingly disproportionately large credit limits despite one or two (albeit old and satisfied) defaults on their credit files.
Of course this isn't evidence of anything, just what has been noticed, but it's good to know
Oh, and good work getting all your old credit marked as settled on your files before applying for anything - so many people don't bother and wonder why they can't get anything for six years
