OFGEM the mega energy regulator which has presided over massive hikes in energy prices, fuel poverty and pay cuts for energy industry workers as well as cuts in investment in those industries are not quite as good at tightening the purse strings when it comes to their own remuneration.

It is quite incredible how many people "work" at OFGEM and yet they seem to do so little apart from damaging the industry, making us all pay more for energy and bring about job cuts pay cuts and cuts in pensions of the hard working front line staff of the energy industry.

OFGEMs income for 2011-12 was £61.364 million pounds. Where does this income come from? Well the energy providers and networks are compelled by law to pay it to OFGEM for its vital and hard work.

almost 59% of that money went straight out in staff costs. Presumably this is salaries, pensions, expenses etc.

The rate of increase of salaries for employees was 4.25% as at 31 March 2012

In the accounting year OFGEM says it had 545 permanent employees,a significant increase on the previous year.

It says it also spent £18,133,000 "promoting quality and value for consumers"

The OFGEM annual report and accounts for 2011-12 are now to hand.

They do like to hide them very deeply on their website and you wont find them on the front page.

Just to quote some figures and bear in mind some of these people only work part time for OFGEM and have other interests..

CETV when referring to pensions means Cash Equivalent transfer value

Alistair Buchanan, soon to be retiring after all his hard work.

pay £210,000 bonus 20,000 CETV £271,000

Roy Field pay £140,000 bonus £20,000 CETV 1,752,000

Sarah Harrison pay 140,000 bonus 20,000 CETV 352,000

David Pimm pay 145,000 CETV 119,000

Andrew Wright pay 185,000 bonus 20,000 CETV 150,000

Stuart Cooke pay 160,000

Robert Hull pay 130,000 bonus 20,000 CETV 267,000

Lord Mogg pay 215,000 benefits in kind 9,300

Honarariums...presumably for consultancy /part time work..

David Fisk 25,000
Miriam Greenwood 28,000
David Harker 25,000
John Howard 25,000
Jim Kershawe 26,750.
Jayne Scott 28,000
John Wybrew 25,000

After all this hard work,Mr Buchanan and Lord Mogg are to retire later this year.

They have no shame.

The next time you see a utility worker freezing and soaking wet, covered in sh*te and digging a hole in a road, think about these fat cats and know that that man is probably being paid about £25k pa
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

To which list I'd add Sir David Nicholson KCB CBE is Chief Executive of the National Homicide Service Commissioning Board.

In September 2011, the Daily Telegraph revealed that Nicholson claimed expenses of over £50,000 a year on top of a basic salary of £200,000 and benefits in kind of £37,600 at a time when he was asking the health service to make £20 Billion cuts by 2015

If you've ever tried to contact OFGEM (by post, email or phone) you'll know why they 'need' so many staff. The levels of bureaucracy and buck -passing are truly staggering. When I had my solar PV installed, I had to register it with them as a generating station before my electricity supplier could register me for the FIT's payments. It took several months, and they were entirely unhelpful and uninterested in resolving the queries I had with their incomprehensible and badly worded application procedure. It was eventually resolved only with the assistance of my installer and supplier.
Many people would probably just have thrown in the towel at that point and not bothered.

If it's anything like HMRC and FSA they retire early with a bonus , wait a year and then get employment with, in this case, the Energy Companies.

Just like the redacted BBC bods at the centre of the SA Vile inquiry.

And now from the party that brought you that old bummer Jeremy Thorpe we now hear about Lord Rennard.

Is that the idea do you think? Afterall you are just a customer - life would be so much easier if they didn't have to think about you ;)

I'd like to say that you are all just a bunch of cynics. Sadly I think it's more a case of we being realistic :(
