What to do in Eastbourne

Hi,
My hubby and I are off to Eastbourne in a couple of weeks for 10 days and I wondered if anyone could suggest anywhere to go that's cheap and something different to do for a day out. We are staying on the marina, and have been several times before, hence the post of what else there is to do. We've been to the town centre, drusillas, pevensey bay, and the local museum showing how Eastbourne grew up, I think they also had a picture postcard display of Gill at the time.
Has anyone got any other suggestions please, maybe from people who live there or nearby?
Thanks,
Bf

You could take a trip to Brighton- Its the festival on and there is plenty of free events and things to see and do. Also Hastings and Battle on the other side of Eastbourne. Both are only 30-40 minutes by car or 30 minutes by train.
Also Beachy Head- There is a nice pub there and nice views from the cliff. The Seven Sisters lakes is also a lovely walk. There is a small museum, pub and its so really calm following the rivers to the sea. There is also a sheep farm there, if i remember correctly.
There is a fort in Newhaven, which is worth a visit and a dinosaur garden centre!
Hope that gives some ideas!Competition Challenge 2007 - Win your internet fees back in prizes = £349.87/£1560 -
Oh there is also the Long Man on the way to Drusillas.. never been there but it looks quite exciting. Someone has carved a giant man in the hills- not sure what the story ism but thre is a sign leading to it off the main road.Competition Challenge 2007 - Win your internet fees back in prizes = £349.87/£1560

Theres the theatres. Not sure if this is what you were talking about but theres the Museum of Shops a few minutes walk from the town centre. I can confirm there is a sheep farm at Seven Sisters. There is also Drusillas near by. This is a good link to see whats on. Its updated every month or so.Bank charges reclaimed: HSBC £1990

There's loads to do in Hastings.
Traditional fun along the seafront, or visit the Old Town, nowhere else like it. House in the shape of a piece of cheese!!! Someone actually lives there! Foyles War is filmed around the Old Town. They have alot of traditional fishing boats, museums, shops etc. There's the cliff cable cars to the East & West Hills. West hill has the castle (not much to see) & the Smugglers Adventure which is great. Its interactive now, but takes you through some of the tunnels used by the smugglers. There's miles of it under Hastings, but its not all open to the public.
Battle nearby has the Abbey & is a quaint town.
Rye is another nice town on the other side of Hastings. Thursday there is a small market.
It doesn't take you long to get to Dover for a cheap day trip to France. Only 1 1/2 hrs roughly by car.
Hope this helps & you have a great time. :beer:0 -
Afriston near Drusillas is a very pretty flint/stone village with lots of little shops and tea rooms.
Beachy Head is nice for a walk if the weather is nice.
Seven Sisters Country Park near Seaford. Park up, walk to the beach, and walk back to the Golden Galleon pub. You can hire bikes nearby and there are plenty of trails: http://www.sevensisters.org.uk/
Want something educational? The Royal Observatory at Herstmonceux:

Eastbourne Minature Steam Railway: https://www.emsr.co.uk
Plenty of stuff in Hastings and Brighton. But how about something arty farty at The De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill: http://www.dlwp.com/ Bexhill is a nice town which has escaped the bucket-and-spade-ification of Brighton. Plenty of old grannies to pull too!
Rye is a nice medieval port to walk around.
Theres a leaflet/map that you can pick up from most tourist places called Sussex Top Attractions 2007: https://www.sussextopattractions.co.uk

Thank you, Vikingaero. We're on the holiday now and I'm downloading the brochure as we speak - weather has been lovely so far.
Have a good week.
