Diesel injectors

Hi, I have been told that my Fiesta diesel needs new injectors as it is smoking a bit and stuttering. I have also been told that this means 4 of them and they are over £100 each plus labour...
Anyone know if I have any options on this please as I can't afford this sort of money.
Many thanks

You can get them removed and tested to see if you really need four. Sometimes its one or two.

You might be able to source them new on say ebay cheaper, OR there are companies who can maybe recondition your own injectors?
  • Hi,
Before you fork out a lot of money try this.
Buy some Wynn's Injector Cleaner for diesels (from Halfords etc.)
Before you next fill up, give the car a dose, and then take it for an Italian tune up.
If still no better find a diesel injector workshop (used by the trucking industry) and ask for help.
Last resort is a friendly garage that knows what it is talking about. NOT a main dealer.
If you want to know how good a Ford main dealer is - look at the rear number plate of a Ford car. Nearly always fitted squiff by a "trained technician".

    Good luck
  • 1st who told you that you need the injectors replacing?
not knowing the age or condition of the car it's dificulte to comment on a possible cause for the smoke and stuttering.has the car been serviced recently? if not this would be my first port of call. could be a blocked fuel filter or air creeping into the fuel system? i do not know where you are, but localy we have a excellent company called carwood that can sonicaly clean the injectors, perhaps there is a similar co near to you?
if it was me i'd go down the service route first.
    good luck

Also worth noting how much the labour is. I always remember my boss needing a new injector, £50 each and £300 labour. He was a cheap sod so he only replaced the one for £350 instead of £500 to do all four, against the advice of the garage who were obviously trying to rip him off.

Two weeks later he was back in the garage as another two injectors had gone. He still hadn't learned his lesson so pays £400 to have them replaced and off he drives.

A month later... I'm sure you've all guessed it by now. The last injector finally gives up and he's back in the garage paying £350 to have it done.

A grand total of £1100, £600 more than if he'd just done all four at once.

(prices are from memory, may not be exact, but they illustrate the point well enough)
  • Has someone already had the injectors out?

I don't know about the fiestas injectors but some are plug and play - eg no coding etc required. IF they are, a second hand set from a car being broken up may well get you out of a scrape for the time being.

I've done that before - used old injectors from another car. I have a spare set including fuel rail hanging up in the shed lol. Mind you they're petrol and not derv but I don't see why you might not get away with it.

Thanks so much for all your answers. I'll have to try and find a place which will test them individually. The car is going to be serviced in a couple of weeks so I will hold out until then to see if it makes any difference to the performance.
Thanks once again - appreciate it.
  • Wifes 2003 TDCI were coded, wondered if these ones had been out before (possibly to replace injector seals if it's of a similar age, believe it was a common fault).
With the injectors not in their original position, the car smoked quite a bit (enough to fail MOT).

Go and find yourself a garage that does lots of repairs on Black Cabs, they'll be use to injectors every day, they may even re-con your own.

If you're around Merseyside these will do you a good job.
