Can anyone please advise how I can watch Sky Go (or iPlayer, TV Catchup etc) when abroad please?

Looking on google says stuff about VPN's but it kinda goes over my head to be honest! Would need help to set it up. Can someone please recommend one, obviously either free or low cost(!), and how to go about using it.

Thanks, fingers crossed!

Yes, you need to get a VPN connection that will suggest to the programme supplier, in your case Sky, that you are located in the UK. There are a number of VPN providers that you can sign up to. The cost is around £5 per month, or cheaper if you subscribe for longer. If you only want for a holiday a month will be fine but you need to remember to cancel.

On my IPad I currently use my expat network. See http://www.my-expat-network.co.uk/ I have also used other providers. They will give you instructions on how to set up your device for the VPN. On the IPhone and IPad this can be done through Settings and General. It s straightforward and I have used it in numerous paces abroad including the US to watch Ipayer, Sky, ITV etc. just remember that if asked always use your own postcode in the UK.

Thanks for the link - looks good. What are the other providers you've used? Or is "My expat network" the best one?

I use this lot at $40 US per year but you can buy a month for $7 US.

Apart from travelling, you can also access US sites like the US version of Netflix and it encrypts your information when using public wifi hotspots, preventing eavesdropping.

The iphone instructions are here and it's not as complex as it sounds.

I use VPN oneclick professional from the app store it has a free trial for a week so ideal to test out whilst away, then i just purchase the in app 1 month sub for £1.49 as and when i go away, has worked very well for me, nothing to set up either just install the profiles and you can then turn it on and off in the menu

    I use WiTopia personal basic
    https://www.witopia.net/

$15 [US] for 3 months - so around £10 - always been rock solid and fast for me, it gives me the ability to to have VPNs set up for any of a 100 or so different cites throughout the World.
I currently have one set up for the US and one for the UK and switch between the two as required.
Dead simple to set up and use on a iPhone or iPad
