    ebay ebay ebay, always a good thing to get you over short cash crisis ( i know its a bit late now like but u cud ebay all the rubbish in your house and then put it aside just in case)

    Regarding the kids...

    At 17 and 15, they're old enough to be having their own part time jobs.

    Doing so will teach them the value of a quid, how much you need to work to earn that quid and because they've worked for it, they're more likely to show restrain in spending it - all of which will be a valuable lesson for the future.

    My eldest son can't wait until he's 13 so he can go get a paper round and earn his own cash.
