Scottish Power phishing email?
Options
Hello,
I switched energy suppliers around 6 months ago and have been submitting meter readings, paying bills etc with no problem. Important note: Neither my previous supplier nor my current supplier is Scottish Power. I have never had anything to do with Scottish Power.
For a while I have been receiving emails purporting to be from Scottish Power. "Welcome to Scottish Power", "Meter reading reminder" etc. They have my correct forename and surname, but the title is wrong. There is no dodgy phone number or message asking me for any details, just what appear to be links to the Scottish Power website (but I haven't clicked on them). I have been disregarding them as an elaborate phishing/virus scam (the emails look credible; I work in the email marketing industry and they have made even me a bit unsure at times!) but now I've received one saying they have issued me with an estimated bill as I failed to provide a meter reading.
Do I just continue to ignore the emails (I suspect I'll get a "Bill reminder" one next) or phone Scottish Power to double check that this is a load of rubbish? Are scams of this type known?
Thanks in advance!

Your bill from SP will have your meter serial number and Meter point reference number too. Check if these are the same as your normal suppliers bill. I would also call Scottish power once you have done this. It may be that you have been taken over erroneously.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
