thomson dreamliner compensation ??

We have booked to go to florida on the dreamliner, but now looks like it will not happen due to the technical issues, are we entitled to some kind of compensation or free upgrades because of this ? We booked with Thomson because of the dreamliner and there not delivering their promise on how they sold the holiday. Thanks for your responses

Forgive me for asking, but did they sell you a holiday that was specifically for the Dreamliner which happened to end up at a holiday destination, or was it just that they'd advertised the fact their new, shiny planes were going to be used on that route?

As long as they get you to your destination, surely that's the main thing?
I have never specifically looked into booking any holiday for the type of plane what would get me there :/

  • I think it extraordinarily unlikely that somewhere in the T's and C's of your agreement with Thomson that they stipulate that you will fly on a 787. On this basis you won't be entitled to anything bar them flying you from A to B as per your booking.

You can always ask (nicely) as to whether they can provide something out of good will, but I wouldn't be holding my breath.
  • Hi,
I Booked it as they advertised i`d be flying on the dreamliner, else i would probably have booked all things separate like i have in the past, but decided on the package and swung it really.

Why do people always bring this comment out? The OP is clearly not demanding that they fly unsafe aircraft, they are asking what compensation they can get because they can't fly on that aircraft.

While I personally would never alter my holiday plans to get onto a new plane, it is quite obvious why some people will. Although it's still economy, the Thomson Dreamliner was advertised to be a much nicer experience than "normal" budget airlines - hence why they were charging extra to get on it.

Whether they actually deserve compensation or not is another matter (I'd personally say no - bar a refund of any surcharge they paid to get on it), but it's human nature to try and take advantage of situations like this!

Many people would not have even considered booking with Thompson's if they hadn't been promised the dreamliner.

Maybe look to see if they will let you cancel and fly with someone else

T&C will definitely say 'while all efforts blah blah blah substitute aircraft may have to be used for operational reasons blah blah blah'.

If you've paid a surplus for the plane I imagine you can get that back, but otherwise you won't get anything. I doubt you are eligible for a refund either due to the T&C you agreed to.

I deliberately chose QF out to Australia to fly on an A380 (BA code share for Avios and Tier Points). I'd have been disappointed if they substituted it for a 747 at short notice, but that's life.

As the aircraft is grounded by the FAA on safety grounds (the US equivalent of our CAA) the unavailability, in fact at this stage non have even been delivered, of them is outside Thomson's control, so I don't see how they could be held responsible.
Perhaps you should consider action against the aircraft builder Boeing
