Fit for purpose ?

Hi, 2 years ago i bought a Dell laptop since then it has continually broke. This includes the hard drive, display, motherboard twice, the battery, the charging socket and the charger and possibly even more that i have forgotten. Also the laptop has a inherent design fault that means it is constantly overheating and lots of people with the same laptop have the fault.. I have become fed up and don't feel like the laptop which cost more than £700 !! is fit for purpose by breaking so much. Do i get any protection etc from the law to get a refund or exchange or anything ?

When did you first report the problems to the retailer or Dell? Write another letter listing all the problems you have had and all the times you have contacted the company and had a repair. No use forgetting things, it's best practice to keep records of all conversations, agreements and action taken. That is why it is generally best to complain in writing, either by e-mail or recorded delivery letter.

Even if you get a refund it will take into consideration the two years of use/ second hand value. Has the overheating caused some of the other issues?

Hi everytime Dell have had it fixed the engineer makes a report with the faults and what was done. I have all of them i just couldn't remember the rest of the breakdowns of the top of my head. How would writing a letter listing all the problems help ? wont they just say sorry and end it at that ?
