Just moved in to a new property and already I have topped up £75 in 10 days with southern electric. It is on a 2 bedroom flat and SE says it is correct and there is no debt on the account? Please help!

Did you get a brand new card/ key when you moved in or are you using the old occupant's card/ key? Might not be debt for energy used, you might be paying for the standing charge if the place had been empty.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

£225 is not excessive for centrally heating a two bedroom electricity only. If you haven't been heating or eating much then there is a problem. But if that is with useage it is not strange, I am afraid.0

My tenner says that the OP has not registered for an account or obtained a new card/key...regular tale on here at present. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

The OP says they have been in contact with the supplier who confirms it is all correct and that there is no debt on the meter.
The supplier should not be giving out that detail unless they have confirmed the caller is the account holder.
Sounds like the OP has been using quite a bit of energy
OP - what was the meter reading when you moved in 10 days ago and what is it today?
How much credit is currently on the meter?0 -
Hi thank you for your replies. I used the gas card that landlord gave me. This post is relating to gas not electricity but supplier is with southern electric. In my last 2 bed property it i had electric only on a monthly direct debit of 171. This is nearly doubled just for gas. I also have electric. So yes it does concern me if I'm paying this amount. Also the epc rating is band D which is avg.0

You need to register for an account and obtain your own card. Nothing to do with the landlord-it's your bill, not his.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Just to double check what you were told, you can check the meter yourself.
If the screen is blank, press the red button to wake it up - it should now show credit for gas.
Press and hold the red button until the screen changes - it should no say either 27 - GD remaining £x.xx or 00 - Last credit £x.xx (older meters)
If you start on screen 27 this shows if there is a bill on the meter, pressing the red button again (25 or 26) shows you how much would go towards that bill each week.
If you start on 00, the screen numbers go up each time you press the red button, but the numbers mean the same thing.
Other screens thatmight help
00 - how much you last topped up
01 - how much of that top up went to pay a bill
02 - how much of that top up went to pay back emergecny credit
03 - how much of that top up you got to use for gas.
Another screen that might help is the 'General Debt' screen. this has no number and you get to it by just pressing the red button fromt he credit screen - it will say OWED £x.xx.
If you can gather this info it'll help find out what is going on.0
