Owners Direct charging VAT to owners

Hello

I have advertised my holiday home with Owners Direct since 2009. They have suddenly started to charge me VAT. But I work as a French registered business and therefore have a SIRET number. In order not to pay VAT Owners Direct insisted I give them a VAT number, which I believed I did not have. However after extensive research I discovered that if you visit societe.com and enter your SIRET number, they will give you a phone number to call. Then an automated voice will give you your VAT number. Voila, no VAT to pay Owners Direct.

I should also say that Owners Direct are the only holiday home website I can find who insist on a VAT number, everyone else is happy with a SIRET.
