in Cutting tax
Hi,
I registered with the tax office for self assessment, as my total wage and benefits in kind (private health and company car) put me in the low £50k's.
The letter the tax office sent back said that they will be in contact nearer the time that I need to do my SA. Does anyone know when this would be? I'd also like to know what sort of information I need to gather in preparation for the SA.
More background info: My pension is deducted before tax, so I understand I don't need to claim back the 40% relief? Also I claim about £6-8k expenses a year (away from home a lot, plus work related fuel costs) but all is claimed back via my company expenses scheme, which I also understand has an arrangement with the tax office, so all my receipts are sent through with my claims.
I'm also under the impression that I can claim for heating/elec for the weeks I work at home? Any further info on this?
As for personal savings, our joint current account is in both our names with minimal interest, but all my own savings are ISA protected. All none ISA savings belong to my wife
(basic tax rate)
Any info on all this would be really appreciated, as it's all new to me.

Presumably your wife also uses her ISA allowance.

Your self assessment form should be arriving from HMRC within the next few weeks- mine usually appears before the end of the tax year.
Gather together your P60, P11D, expenses details, CB details, details of charitable donations, any interest/dividend payments outside ISAs/tax exempt schemes and put them into a file for ready reference.0
