alton towers monday 2nd july busy period?

I've never been to the park before and we're planning a visit th first week of july. i was wondering if any one thinks this is a good idea. will the queues be horendous or will the place be deserted?
i've read numerous sob stories today about how you can spend 6 hours to go on 3 rides!!!!

any advice would be much apprecated. thank you very much in advance.

It could be because of the school trips taking place then since most exams are over. But I would imagine it would be worst in the middle of July. You can buy fast track passes for £5 which allows you to go on most of the big rides once and jump the queue so that could be worth getting if it is busy.

    thanks for your quick reply.

that might be worth bearing in mind. we want a good experience because its our first time there.

would september be a more suitable time with no queues?

July might be busy. The slowest days at AT are usually a wed and thursday. These are better days to go on as there are less teacher training days and less school trips usually on these two days.

I would say if you have never been to the park Look at a park map before you go. See what you want to go on. plan some routes.

I think the fast track tickets have gone up a few quid. I think £7 but not 100% sure.

Dont forget about the parking charge. £4!!!! which is annoying but if you want to go you will have to pay it.

PM me if you have any more questions about AT. I think I have covered most things.

Your best plan is to get there just before it opens so you get in literally as it opens. Head straight to the back of the park quickly and get on the big rides. Last two times we went we did this and managed to do 3 of the big rides in the first hour! Hope that helps :)

Thrill and Family Shortcut tickets allow the bearer priority access to some of our favourite attractions and can be purchased and pre-ordered in advance. There are limited numbers available on the day.
Also using the single rider queues may reduce your wait if you don't mind riding alone. They have a selection of tickets for different priority rides

we went the first wek of July last year and because was 'schools week' we got reduced ticket entry price because they were expecting it to be busy. Wasn't too bad - have been there when much worse!

thank you for all your replies :)

i was thinking about buying my tickets through tesco clubcard deals for £8 each. is that the cheapest option. it will be 2 adults going. do we purchase fast track tickets seperately?

Tescos is the cheapest way to do it. You can buy fast track on the day. but get there before the park opens as they do sell out quick.
Also remember if you do get fast track save them for later in the day. After lunchtime. I have seen ppl use them early on when the queues are still about 10-15 mins for big rides. A waste of the ticket.

I don't know fast tracks sold out!! But when I think about it, of course, they must. We've been 4 or 5 times this last year and always got one - well worth it, otherwise you're in queues all day. The fast track for the big 4 rides - oblivion, air, nemesis and the rapids is £8, and you can top that up to include rita for £2 (or £3, can't remember). All adds up but I think if you don't have one, whatever you have spent on the main tickets is wasted because you'd just be queuing all day.
