Can you expand. I have a non cancerous tumour based on left ear. But apart from cluster headaches and a hearing aid does not affects work. I work full time - does this mean it won't last 6 months so your DLA. Is void?0 -
that will all change.retrogamer666 wrote: »what do u mean what care needs do i have, i cannot go anywhere or do anything without some1 taking me therr or helping me do something.i cant even make myself a cup of coffee everything has to be more or less done for me, using this PC is more or less the only thing i do all day everyday and it has had to be adapted for me to be able to use. i get up in the morning i need my wife to help me in and out the shower. if i have a hospital or docs appointment i have to be taken by my wife or my father, other than that i spend all day in this computer chair because i havnt had anyhelp from anyone other than my wife and family and when my wife goes to work she leaves me something to eat and drink, i dont move from this seat unless i have to go t the bathroom until she comes home.
icant be any simpler than that
i totally accept the going outside part.
but the care you need will lessen.
there are many aids available, from devices that fit on cups to tell you where the water level is to electronic gadgets that tell you what colour clothes are!.
as you have no physical problems, you are capable of dressing and washing yourself. you may need help selecting clothes and making a meal.
but these are covered by low rate care.
i am registered blind and i live alone.
i dont just sit and not move all day.
tou will adjust, and to be honnest you need to stop letting people do everything for you and become more independant.
youre too young to give up!0 -

basicly i had the tumour when i was a child, it was removed but it damaged my sight so i have no vision in my right eyes and maybe 5 or 6% vision in my left basicly nothing0 -

its not about giving up, im just s**t scared ill burn the house down or sumthing0 -
so you still have some sight in your left eye?
i have lost over 95% of my sight, and what vision i do have is servelt disturbed.
much like seeing the world through a snowstorm ( like snow on a TV)
i get awful migraines because i cant stop my eye from 'trying' to see, even though most of the time what im seeing makes no sense.
most of the help i need is things that arent covered by DLA. food shopping, housework etc.
my PA comes in the morning to run my bath and make sure im using the right products,,, but apart from that, i just get on with it,
there is no reason that you shouldnt vbe able to either0 -
so you start by learning to do things when others are around.retrogamer666 wrote: »its not about giving up, im just s**t scared ill burn the house down or sumthing
no one is suggesting you have a barbeque!
but putting the kettle on is hardly likely to start a fire!0 -
Right so you have had this disability since young and was able to work with it, has it worsened?
Also I think your mortgage people have been unfair. As you are classed as a dependant removing this weighting from her wages, the mortgage, the mandatory insurance etc I can't see how they expected you it live on that as after council tax will take you lower than most affordability testing.
Did you use a broker who altered incomes?0 -
I know two blind people (both totally blind, no sight at all) and they both have good careers in professional roles, there is no reason at all why blind people cant work if blindness is the only disability.
Have you thought about going to uni? For a real profession though and not a mickey mouse course with the changes in benefits you dont know what is avaialble from one year to the next, you will be much better off trying to equip yourself with a means to earn a living, especially at your age.
Did you watch saints and scroungers on Tuesday BBC?
A man in his early forties lost his sight overnight and the program featured the help he was given from action blind to retrain him for a new job and benefits etc. though benefits are normally mininmal for just a blindness diagnosis as you do learn to manage many of things you currently struggle with so DLA will normally only be awarded at a higher rate for a short term while you relearn the daily basics.0 -
oscar pistorius has no legs, but can run faster than most able bodied men .....
my point being, just because SOME people can, doesnt mean everyone should be able to0 -
Nanny tone is right, blind people with no other disabilities tend to qualify only for low rate care, the most severely blind also can qualify for high rate mobility but that is incredibly difficult to get an even as someone training to specialise in low vision I only know a handful of blind people who get HRM.
There are loads of aids and adaptions out there OP that will make your life easier, you're scared now but you can learn to live a full and satisfying life with a visual impairment and yes, you might even be confident enough to get a job one day.
If you google where you are and "low vision [hobby]" you'll find there are lots of clubs out there for blind people. My friend runs a blind bowling group up here, I've been to a blind book club, blind knitting circle, blind walking group and I've even met a blind cyclist!
Contact your social work team and ask for an appointment with an occupational therapist to get you started. If you like to read there are loads of things like talking books and newspapers too.0
