Hi
Some advice please
Recieved a letter from my PAYE employer NHS to say that the payroll provider has not deducted enough pension contributions for past 3 years and I am liable for nearly £3000 in back payments, this is due to my employers error and also the payroll provider they have admitted liability in the letter.
Do I have any arguement over this surely they are liable for there error? Thanks in advance.

Im a paramedic not an accountant deemed that the correct amount was coming out every month they insisted on a split contract when I took on another role I have two paramedic roles 6 weeks on each on a rolling rota.
As they are a payroll provider/supplier i would thought they would get it right?0 -

As an employee getting a payslip, these are given to you to inform you of your pay and to enable you to check that its correct. Very few people who gets payslips are accountants and your sarcasm, when asking for help and expecting it, astounds me.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

my payslip says in big writing that its up to me to check my payslip myself and query it if its wrong - its not exactly complicated is it now!
as far as who's fault it is - don't even bother trying to blame the payroll dept - many years ago my employer didn't calculate paye correctly for 2 yrs - we all had to pay up - so i guess you will as well
cheers

No sarcasm just fact.
I was hoping for help not lectures.0 -

And your self-satisfied statement of being 'astounded' truly amazes, no flabbergasts me - so much so in fact, I am struggling for oxygen.bigfreddiel wrote: »as far as who's fault it is - don't even bother trying to blame the payroll dept
Why ever not? Maybe in a 'pay as you go' scheme like the NHS one the question wouldn't arise, but in the LGPS at least payroll cockups (which can happen intermittently with long drawn-out TUPE cases, for example) can lead to deals like the employer paying the arrears due to the pension fund immediately, but only reclaiming them back from the employee over a number of months.0 -

It is the employees responsibility to check their payslips for any errors (because errors do occur) and then normally negotiation is the best way to go with the employer.Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -
