We have 2 dwarf hamsters, usually v active. Went to clean cage today and one of then just let me catch him (v.unusual!) Put him in that ball and he didn't move, have now put him back in his cage and he is sat shaking (other is rubbing round like normal) and he is walking really slow, hasn't been near his food/water like he would do.. . Looks like he is cold iykwim!
Could he be ill or is he wanting to hibernate?
They are both 2 years old
Thanks!

have you googled his symptoms.?HIBERNATION: Although hibernation is not an illness, animals in hibernation are frequently mistaken for ill hamsters. Syrians are more prone to hibernation if there is a sudden drop in the temperature, which will trigger reduced pulse and respiratory rate that results in a lifeless body that appears to be dead; however, close observation will reveal that the whiskers are generally still moving. Move the hamster to a warmer room and let it arouse slowly on its own accord. Or, hold it until it starts to revive. If it is not aroused it could die of starvation or dehydration. Sometimes it will shake just before totally coming out of hibernation. Hamsters should be kept in rooms or buildings with even temperatures and have a good supply of bedding to prevent hibernation."if the state cannot find within itself a place for those who peacefully refuse to worship at its temples, then it’s the state that’s become extreme".Revd Dr Giles Fraser on Radio 4 20170

I did, but he's not completely lifeless, he is moving and his eyes are open - I am not sure whether it is the start of hibernation (?) or if he is getting ready to die (he is approx 2 so at his life expectancy)
Never known him to hibernate.... And we have been seeing him recently so don't think it will be the end of hibernation0 -
