Selling UK reg car to person from Republic of Ireland
Comments
-
I've sold a car to someone from the USA. He paid me the money, we both filled in our respective bits of the V5 and then he drove the car away,
That is all there was to it.
If you want to keep the reg, you need to put it on retention. Details on the DVLA web site.0 -
Section 11 of the logbook (if it's the current type)
"Notification of permanent export V5C/4"
The instructions for how to fill it in and what to do are written on the back.0 -
OP is not exporting it. Just fill in the change of keeper with their address and its not your problem.
If you want to keep the reg then you need to transfer it to another vehicle or put it on retention. £80 to transfer and £120? ish? for retention?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
umm, Republic of Ireland = exporting. Northern Ireland = part of the UK.
Or does selling within the EU not count as exporting these days?0 -
Do I need to do anything other than sort out the usual V5 details?
What happens the UK reg plate for instance?
If I wanted to keep the reg what would be the process?
TIA
From DVLA's leaflet - INS160:
What to do if you are selling your vehicle privately to someone that does not have a GB address
[FONT=Helvetica 55 Roman,Helvetica 55 Roman][FONT=Helvetica 55 Roman,Helvetica 55 Roman]You should fill in sections 6 and 10 with the new keeper’s name and address. Both you and the new keeper (buyer) must sign and date the declaration in section 8. Give the whole V5C to the new keeper to aid registration abroad.
You should then send a signed letter to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1AG giving the vehicle’s registration number, the make and model of the vehicle, the date of sale or transfer, and the name and address of the new keeper.

Northern Ireland is part of UK but not GB, the process is different - you would send the V5C to a N.I. DVA local office.0 -
sure it's a legit buyer? presumably there are plenty of 8 year old corsa's available locally

Ahh, so the buyer is responsible for doing the export notification, unless the OP actually puts the car on the ferry for the buyer.Northern Ireland is part of UK but not GB, the process is different - you would send the V5C to a N.I. DVA local office.
The OP is selling to Southern Ireland?0 -

The OP is selling the car to someone who does not have a GB address, they will need the V5C to register the vehicle in their country, which is why they keep it and the seller notifies DVLA of the transfer by letter.0
