Please don't use such broadbrush terms to describe those of us that do use Tesco - you have no way of backing up that first sentence!

Firstly, some of us have very little choice. Where I live I can walk with an old fashioned shopping trolley to the only two supermarkets in town - Tesco and to some extent B&M - to access any of the others, be it the Aldi/Lidl discounters or Asda/Morrison mainstream is a 13 mile drive each way or 35 minutes on a bus. As we eat mostly non processed food, we shop 2 - 3 times a week, so the added cost of avoiding Tesco is simply not viable.

Tesco is no different from the other major supermarkets, they all use the same book of tricks and traps, and as ever buyer beware applies - we simply set a price we are willing to pay and (carefully) use the various offers to our advantage.

And yes I'd love to use my local shops, quite simply I cannot afford to do so as virtually all the food I buy is either dearer in them, or of a much lower freshness or quality.

Finally, in case anyone thinks so, no I am not a Tesco cheerleader, just don't like the continual poorly thought out "bash them at all costs" attitudes that keep being displayed against Mr T. when all the other majors are equally as bad.

DocN said MOST Tesco customers, so you have missed the point. Few people have no other choice, most have another major supermarket that will delivery even if not in striking distance OR they have indoor/ outdoor markets OR they have farm shops/ traditional grocers/ butchers OR can get a veg box delivery to which other groceries can be added.

I eat mostly unprocessed food (I don't even eat bread or breakfast cereals) and I don't need to shop several times a week. It really depends what you choose and how you store it - stick to salad and soft fruits you will need to shop far more often but these are some of the most expensive produce because they are so perishable. The alternative is to also opt for cheaper frozen and long lasting fresh vegetables (eg. cruciferous, root). A key healthy eating guideline is to eat a wide variety of different foods anyway.

I don't really see how you can say the others are as bad when you don't use them. Given Tescos recent price hikes - their usual January scalping - it wouldn't surprise me if it cost the same or was cheaper to actually pay for delivery from other supermarkets at least some of the time, especially if you rotated to take advantage of the best deals. Asda deliver from £2, Waitrose free, Ocado have a delivery pass free trial for six months at present.

    HTH. :)

Try going to North/Mid Wales, Scotland outside the major cities and towns, or the south west of England to name but a few. Even Mr. T is not everywhere.

Thank you for the lecture on healthy eating and food storage, but I will stick to my own requirements.

I don't really see how you can say the others are as bad when you don't use them. I have in the past lived in other places and used all the others I quoted and found ALL to be lacking at some time, nothing new here.

Call me old fashioned, but I prefer to pick my own food not rely on someone else's choice and pay for the privilege on top.

You obviously really dislike Tesco, so why do you bother to research their prices - which I have to assume you did to make the above "scalping" comment - it would be much easier just to report on the "bargains" you find elsewhere and stop worrying about Mr T.

Tesco do not think their customers are stupid. They have the computerised statistics that prove it. Lots of people complain and whinge. But both they and many others continue to fill their trolleys in a fashion that belies the protestations.

    Totally right!

When I was running a shop (not Tesco) a promotion ended, and I'd still got a fair bit of stock left for it. I chucked it in a dump bin, and stuck a sign on "Price jump! Was 65p - Now 95p!!!!!", put it in a busy area of the store, and cleared it in a day :rotfl:
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?
Get jobs in offices and wake up for the morning commute?

As I clearly stated 'few' but again you feel the need to dispute something that is not an absolute. There are few people living in the wilds of Scotland or Wales compared to the population as a whole. I gave four different options for purchasing, but you choose disingenuously to dispute one.

Do I "obviously really dislike" Tesco or have you leaped to conclusions? You don't "have to assume" anything, you have chosen not to bother reading around the board to see if there others have noted the same phenomena.

I think you nead to read my first post again; my initial words were "some of us have very little choice" and then continued about myself "where I live I can walk", and "I'd love to use my local shops" but "I cannot afford to do so".

You have deliberately moved that on to another broadbrush view "most have another major supermarket" etc etc, and then suggested a variety of other shopping methods which all involve extra expense despite me showing that cost was an issue, or a third party being involved in selecting my food which I don't want to happen.

As to your dislike of Tesco; it is plainly obvious that is so, from both your posts on this thread and other threads you have previously contributed to. As regards reading around the board; I was responding to you and your posted statement about "scalping", no need to look at others posts.

Yes that is pretty much what the words 'most' and 'few' imply. Really can't see why you feel the need to be affronted! :p

I disapprove of January scalping in the grocery arm, a few words does not prove a strong dislike of a vast organisation unless you have a very vivid imagination or psychic abilities. Do you?

Last week I purchased 6 fresh limes from Tesco. They were priced at 30p each but they had a multi buy of 4 for a £1. I was charged 25p each for the first 4 and then 30p each for the subsequent 2.

In my eyes any purchased above 4 should have been pro rata the multi buy rate Ie all charged at 25p each .

I raised this issue with a Tesco who very promptly phoned me and said that had I bought 8 I would have paid 25p each for them.

I explained that the Multibuy lacked intelligence and that I had effectively been charged 27.5p each for 6 limes. The Customer service guy just could not see my logic.

I then said to him if his company buyer bought 6 pallets of limes from the grower, would their buyer expect to pay more for the 2 of the pallets - he said of course not.

I then said but you are applying this logic to your own customers. He said why didn't you by 8, I said that I only needed 6 !

He still didn't get it. I said that I will now buoy cotta Tesco for 1 month for lacking intelligence :rotfl::rotfl:
