I've had to switch off my water as the stopcock is leaking. (landlord has arranged for someone to come tomorrow to fix this)
Can I still use the central heating?
Thank-you

What sort of boiler do you have? If it's a combi, it's fine, as it's a sealed system. If it's a conventional boiler with a header tank in the loft, then theoretically it could run dry-but unlikely to do so overnight if it's full now.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thank you for your help. It's an old style one with a tank in the loft.0 -
As you have a landlord, ask him and do as he says. In my own house, I would run it if I could open the stopcock at least once every 24 hours. Can I still use the central heating? You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
A couple of years ago, I went away for several weeks over the winter and took the advice of my heating engineer.
He advised that I turned off the water at the stopcock and left the heating on 24/7 at a low temperature to protect against frost.
It worked fine.0 -
With a conventional system with a header tank, I can't see any problem running the system for a few days. If the header tank runs dry in that time, then there's a serious leak somewhere in your heating. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
Thanks for all your replies.
Stopcock is fixed and I have a warm house.
Thanks for all the advice.0
