Poll ESA and WRAG have you been found work you can do?

I am wondering just how many of us have had the ESA assessment and been put into the WRAG group and actually found some work that you can manage?

Being in the WRAG doesn't mean being found work though so the question is flawed. It's about helping you to be ready for work although of course if someone finds work that is good.

  • So what happens after the time in the WRAG then?
Are you helped to find work or left to get on with it.
I was under the impression the point of WRAG was to help people with disabilities into work

There is no time limit to being in the WRAG. As long as you meet the requirements you will stay in it.

It's about helping people to get ready for work. You can be helped for instance with your CV or have to attend the work programme to get you into the way of work. It's not about actually finding someone a job.

  • That's strange I was told you only stayed in it for 365 days?
Not sure what the point of it is then if it's not about actually 'helping' someone into work - a means to an end

If getting contribution based WRAG then you will only get money for 365 days and after that if you can't get income based then you will get NI credits only. However you will still have to comply with the conditions such as going to meetings etc. It's about helping people to be work able not actually getting them a job.

  • Thanks for clearing that up. Not sure how they then expect people with multiple disabilities to find work by themselves. it's hard enough for the abled person

I would qualify for SG ESA but work full time as a dispensing optician. I'm a wheelchair user, doubly incontinent with hearing impairment and regular black outs.
  • You do very well then to cope with work and disabilities. Nice to hear of someone who can find work and cope despite the problems

Develop RA or other condition that impairs your hands/arms on top and then you're knackard.

I am developing "something" that is affecting my shoulders/swallowing but it just means I'm needing to move a bit less. The job I do is very variable and mostly involves talking to people and carrying out assessments and doing fine adjustments so worst case scenario at the moment is I'd need to upgrade the chair and train "dragon" to learn Scottish accents.
