Beach etiquette?

Hey folks ... was just wondering if anyone knew if it was illegal to light a bonfire on the beach? :confused: A few mates were planning on goin for a midnight dip, as a friend turns 30!! Wud be nice to have a hot fire to run back too :j ... but was wonderin if this was legal ... or are beach fires banned? Cheers
