Sky routing my calls to a stranger.

Hi, just a heads up as to what can go wrong when switching to Sky. Yesterday was my activation day for sky broadband and Talk. This involves switching my line from BT to SKY. What sky have actually managed to do is switch my phone line to a random stranger who now receives my landline calls. I only found out after my line dropped dead for several hours (no broadband either). Eventually out of curiosity I called my own number, which was answered! The (fortunately) nice lady who now takes my calls told me she had informed sky that day and they had told her it would be sorted out in 72 hours.
Sky have however failed to get in touch with me by email or mobile to inform me of what is going on. Sky's facebook presence tell me sky can't know who's phoneline has been misdirected or even if they're a customer so wouldn't have informed me. Apparently CLI and databases are beyond this media giant. I have contacted sky and asked them to call me on my mobile as it's incredibly expensive to call them on a mobile (probably on hold) and they've cut off my landline. So far nothing.
Obviously there are privacy and security issues attached to what they've done, and by having a non-geographical number you can only call free from on of their own landlines I'm effectively cut off from support. I've got limited web connectivity now via mobile broadband and so far sky have told me a line-test looks fine. I'm sure whoever it connects to appreciates that....

I wonder how much 'your' calls will have cost you by the time you get 'your' line back.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Yeah, and I've been repeatedly trying to call you about that bag of diamonds you have for sale.
Oh well, your loss.
She seems a nice lady thoughThe bankers stole my pension (and everyone else's). It should have earned a lot of money, but they took their bonus pot first.0 -
Sky are responsible as your provider, but the fault has been caused by OR reconnecting you wrongly when your line was moved over onto the Sky LLU network at the exchange.
Sky only know what BT OR tells them..which is usually nothing.
It is normal for you to lose service for a short time while the physical transfer takes place (it's not, as is so often assumed, just a matter or 'pressing a few buttons at the exchange').No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
True enough Heinz, she did warn me that she'd be using the phone & I should check "my" bill.
Yup, absolutely I understand the process which is why I didn't start haranguing them straight away. As time crept on however I suspected that a job like this started mid-afternoon would likely be completed by 7pm or not at all.
Sky have now PM'd me on their support forum which seems hopeful. I do hope they don't just ask me to unplug my phone and plug it back in again. Meanwhile I'm having to text my contacts and tell them not to phone me at home for a while.
Sorry analyst, I'm all out of diamonds. Probably got a few carrots somewhere if you're interested, I'm giving Sky the stick though.Reading this signature is a waste of time0 -
