Another Java Threat - Apple Macs

  • The reason for my pointing this out is not Apple Bobbing but to make more people aware of flaws in Java. However it really is appropriate given it occurred on Apple premises, to Apple employees. The cynical side of me says "It's a Mac you don't need antivirus" , but the realistic side of my nature is says nothing is better than common sense.

Better than the last Java exploit that affected Apple, where Apple sat on it for a month after the fix was made available to them.

But yes the real culprit here is Java. Unless you actually know you need Java for something you should remove it from your computer. This applies to Apple, Windows and Linux machines.

Also note that Java and JavaScript are not the same thing, so just because some website you use tells you you need JavaScript, you can still get rid of Java.

If you do need Java in order to run something I would suggest looking for an alternative piece of software that does not need Java.

the thing is this appears to be another one of those as the java exploit that is believed to have been used was known about and pathed by java at the start of the month - from the BBC link -
He said Java developer Oracle had released its own fix at the beginning of the month after having discovered exploits that were "in the wild" - a term given to vulnerabilities being used by hackers.

of course as usual Apple have not confirmed that this is the same vulnerability but i think its probably highly likely that it is.

just another reason to get anti virus on a mac really
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
