Best way to clean iPhone charging port?

Hello.
My husband's iPhone charging port has a build-up of dirt and dust which is affecting the ability for it to change via the cable (i.e. whether it will charge is sporadic, it comes off charge alot because the cable won't fit in the port properly anymore.)
What is the best way to clean it? I have some compressed air but I'm not sure if this is the correct way to clean it or not.

Hoover, in conjunction with compressed air?0

I'd use cleaning buds with a bit of rubbing alcohol on the end. Did the job for me

Dont use compressed air, it can trip the water sensors inside as it has a habit of firing out liquid if held to close, any liquid cleaning is a no no, especially if its a 4 or 4s as they have a water sensor in the charging port:beer:0
