Help please with proof of purchase

Hello all, here goes my story.

We save with park every year and get vouchers to spend at Christmas. Bought my two boys tablet computers for Christmas using said vouchers from HMV.

One has gone faulty and the manufacturer has said they will repair it but they need proof of purchase. However we have moved recently and the receipts have probably been thrown away.

Spoke to park who may be able to tell us how much was spent at what shop but not on what or on what date. HMV are no more either.

Am I probably going to have to buy a new one for him?

Any help will be appreciated

Presumably you didn't register for the manufacturer's warranty (not blaming you, most people, including me, don't bother, but it would have saved you this time)? If not then that warranty can have whatever conditions the manufacturer wants, and if they say receipt then they may not accept anything else. I'd be searching just in case the receipts weren't thrown out, and take it as a hint not to use vouchers, just save up the money and use a card so that you'll have extra protection.
  • In the worst case that you do have to buy a new one, you will then have a receipt for it.

If the faulty one looks as good as new, you could return it to the shop with the new receipt for a refund.

Alternatively if it looks well used, you could wait a few weeks and send it off for repair with the new receipt. Then either keep the repaired one as a spare or sell on ebay to recoup some of the cost.

Some HMV stores are still trading - go in to there, equipped with the date you bought the item (assuming you know) and ask if they can track the transaction. If so, ask for a duplicate receipt or something to that effect to send to the manufacturer.
