When I was 14, I lost a friend in similar circumstances. A dog had died just weeks before and there had been a few near misses reported to them. It wasnt until after my friend died that they eventually took action. Kind of saddening that something so simple could have saved their life.
They're probably too busy with their fantastic bedroom tax.
I'm sorry, that's so terrible!
I'm honestly not sure whether I'm being silly and making this into something, or whether I'm making a valid point?
Reading your post, however, has made me a bit more determined. I don't know how similar the circumstances are, but I don't want anything like that to happen here. The land was this bad after a fairly dry period. If it rains as its forecast to, I dread to think how bad it would be.0 -

Eh it was a long time agoI'm a grown up now (well.....most of the time). And personally I think if there is a danger of someone either losing their life or being permanently disabled etc....its a valid point.
Simple fact is, kids do silly things - even when they do actually understand that it may present a danger to them. Because they just arent as aware of their own mortality as we adults are. In fact you'd probably find with some kids, fear of their parents finding out is what stops them doing silly things, not the fear of danger!
As for the circumstances surrounding my friend, we're entirely similar in that it didnt involve mud and bad weather/bad luck was a combination in hers. Bad weather made the currents (it was water she fell into) stronger. Was just about 200ft from her house too if even that. No one could help her because the second anyone tried, they started to get caught in the current too.
Could it be possible theres perhaps a burst pipe or flooding thats caused the mud to become unsafe? Is it normally like that? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Oh that's awful
And yes, I know what you mean about kids. The lad that wanted to go find my shoe thought he'd be fine as he was, in his words "only little and not very heavy". 4 steps in he started sinking and he very quickly got out.
I'm not sure about the burst pipe, but it's entirely possible. I couldn't comment too much, as the land used to be houses. These were demolished last summer, and until a week ago it was fenced off. Shortly after demolition it was used as storage for building materials, then sat empty for months before the fence was taken down. However, when my friend lived in one of those houses, her back garden certainly wasn't like that!
I might mention to the council about a water main, as its possible that damage was done during the demolition. Good thinking!
As of last night there was no change. Will be dropping my monster off to nursery at lunch time, and if its still not been done, I'll tweet the local paper.0 -

Have you had no response from your ward councillors and member of parliament?Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
Got an automated reply from the MP, and have heard nothing from my local councillor either
That is very poor.Do you only have one ward councillor? We have three tho I am in a city so maybe it is different elsewhere. As an aside not a single one of our councillors holds 'surgeries' in my area and they don't respond to e-mails either. At least you can say to the local rag that you have tried that route and been ignored as well as Environmental Health being a waste of space.

We have two, and I emailed the one who not only lives closest to the land and is the more well known/established, but also is the one who's more active (holds surgeries, helps out more with individual's queries etc) although I am tempted to email the other one in case he can be of help.0
