Frankfurters probably have a hell of a lot worse in than horse meat! I don't know why someone doesn't invent good quality frankfurters, they would be amazing! I would go for hot (normal) sausage in a roll and a squirt of ketchup, could be served on a piece of kitchen roll

a few people are trying but I doubt they qualify as budget!

  • Hi there,
I do team food at the rugby club where my little boy plays.Generally we make around 100 bacon rolls for spectators and up to 250 hot dogs for teams and opposition on match days. The hot dogs are made from mechanically recovered chicken and I'm convinced that their nutritional value is in the negative.I would like to get back to using proper sausages as we did last season but the lady who does it with me is the Chairman's wife and they favour the hotdogs for cost and practicality in terms of cost, less wastage if a match is cancelled and ease of storage. So I do see their point. At away games we are given everything from hotdogs to home-made stew. We are fortunate in that we have a production kitchen at the club, but the real challenge is keeping everything warm enough and serving that volume when all the teams come in almost simultaneously .I tend to give my little boy just the bun anyway as I don't want him having the hotdog but most parents aren't concerned. If I had my way, it would be fresh sausages, and failing that chip butties as the large range could cope with a lot of oven chips. Not much nutrition either, but hopefully fewer "nasties".

What about soup and a cheese roll? This is my 'fill up cold cub scouts on camp' stand by. If you do Tomato soup it will cover the vegetarians too.

Just use decent sausages instead of doghots.. they are MUCH better for them than the rubbish in HD's... with ketchup and mustard.

Meatballs and pasta twists might go down well.
Burgers, nice ones, in a bread bomb.. you might even get to sneak some salad in ;)
