HSBC Over draft charges

Hi Can someone help me please, i went into my overdraft in December and was charged £50, i have since had another £150 taken out of my account by HSBC saying pre arranged charges and this £150 has taken me past my over draft again...... can i complain about this and claim the money back??? I have been an HSBC customer all my life and i'v decided to look else where as i'm far from happy with the way they have just taken money out of my account.

can i complain about this and claim the money back?

On what basis would you want to complain?

You do realise that all banks do it that way. Had you been with the others you would have had the same outcome.

Most banks will refund as a goodwill gesture on a first time error. Keep repeating it though and they wont.

    Is this the case?
A payment from your account takes you into an informal overdraft for one day.
However, on three more occasions during the month, a payment takes you into an informal overdraft. On each of these occasions you have an informal overdraft for three days in a row.

Did that actually incur you in any extra fees, or is that just a red herring?

If you were charged extra fees, that would appear to be a breach of their Fair Fees Policy
Our Fair Fees policy is the result of us asking customers like you what you think it's fair to charge you – and what's not. Here's a list of situations that you can rest assured you won't be charged for by HSBC.

    • We won't charge you additional fees if it's the overdraft fees (or interest) that have taken you overdrawn, or further overdrawn
Definitely worth having a chat with them to clarify matters :)
