I know exactly how the OP feels (wasn't Barclays by any chance?) Went to move money online last year as had to pay plumber only to realise £4,000 was missing from my savings account. I phoned the bank who were less than helpful, after many phone calls the bank admitted that due to a cashier error (put in correct account number but wrong sort code) the money had been taken from my account and put into a third parties. When I asked them to transfer the money back I was informed that they would have to contact the third party and ask for the money back..until they had their permission they could not refund me!! I asked how I was meant to pay for my new boiler and they just said "can you not get the money from another account!"
I was very upset and stressed about this it took about 10 days for them to admit problem and then refund money. They did give me £100 for my troubles but to be honest I was so stressed about the whole thing this hardly made up for it. I feel for you OP and unless this has ever happened to you then you cannot appreciate how stressfull this is.MFW - We've only gone and blooming done it!May 2013:j0 -
Try for compensation - tell them that you will report the matter to the financial services ombudsman if you do not get a satisfactory response from them...
With this sort of attitude where customers lie over and over again just to line their own pockets it's not surprising that some firms are trying to sue customers who put through spurious claims to the Ombudsman - quite fair under these circumstances !0
