Jumble sales ....

Thought that as the title of this board includes jumble sales I would start a thread about them as I've never seen one on here! :D

So ... does anyone ever see jumble sales advertised these days?? As a kid they seemed pretty common at weekends but I don't remember the lsaast time I saw one advertised. Also has anyone found any bargains at them ???

I haven't been to one for years, used to go regularly to the Sally Army hall one when I was a kid and regularly got told off for bringing a load of junk home.

All I ever see advertised are table top sales. A posh name for a jumble sale, I wonder?

Ive had some cracking stuff at jumbles. My mate got some BNWT tommy hilfiger jeans for 20p. Ive had loads of pairs of 80s stilletoes & clutch bags etc which Ive sold on the vintage section of ebay.

You usually find them in your local paper, ( like freesheets) . Many of them happen on Saturdays, Im going to find one to go to next sat hopefully, I know theres one in walthamstow somewhere as I saw it in a shop window yesterday but didnt write it down
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

A table top sale usually means an indoor version of a car boot sale. Jumble sales are nuch rarer than in days gone by where I am, too, which is a shame. I love them, especially when the clothes stalls do fill-a-bag-for-£1 at the end (which also happens less often nowadays, and it used to be F.A.B. for 50p!) I once got 47 garments into one large carrier bag.
Other bargains I've had include a big bookcase for £2, an iron (good working order with plug) for 10p, and a vintage leather bag for 20p which I used a couple of times and later sold on eBay for £42!
  • Oh i haven't seen a jumble sale advertised for ages! I loved them as a kid and there seemed to be one nearly every week at various church halls and Scout huts.
When i was about 10, I bought a cup and saucer for about 10p from a jumble sale as I thought it was really pretty and that my mum would like it. She did and, about 15 years later, we realised it was a "Suzy Cooper". She still has it on display in the kitchen.
I'm going to scour the local papers for news of jumble sales. Hope they still exist..
