Will it affect his benefits

My boyfriend is currently claiming a mixture of job seekers allowance and carers allowance. He cares for his disabled mother so is unable to work. At the moment he rents a room in a private house and gets his rent paid for. We are looking to move in together in the near future, I am currently earning £22000 a year and live in a house which is I am buying. If he moves in with me, will this affect his job seekers allowance and carers allowance?? We are fully aware that he wont be able to claim for his rent any more, but am not sure if I could afford to support him if he lost all his benefits.
Any info would be appreciated :o

Any means tested benefit will be affected such as income based JSA. He will still be able to get carer's allowance if he meets the criteria.
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Are you sure it's JSA as that is paid to job seekers? Is he not claiming income support with the carers allowance?

If he is unable to work due to caring responsibilities, how is he meeting the requirements for JSA? Surely he has to be looking for work, what would he do if he found any?

We probably need to know whether he's on contributions-based or income-based JSA - if the latter, once he moves in with you, your income will be taken into account when calculating his entitlement.

The good news is that whilst he isn't earning, I *think* he'll still be entitled to the Carers Allowance as that is based only on his income (not yours). My OH still gets CA for looking after our son regardless of the level of my income.

JSA being £71/week, most of it gets sucked up by basic utilities/standing charges. These aren't things that need to be paid for if he moves into yours.

At the moment, say, somebody on JSA might be paying: £13/month TV license, £12/month water standing charge, £X/month electricity standing charge, £10/month phone line rental, £15/month broadband. As these sorts of things are things he won't be paying for any more, he won't be 'losing' £70/week. Also, the cost of feeding 2 is negligible over the cost of feeding one. Most of his electricity use will be covered too (you'd be using that anyway to run a fridge/freezer, TV, lightbulb in the evenings, washing machine etc). it'll probably cost you £10-15/week extra to keep him as about £60/week is probably spent on these one off charges that will no longer need to be covered from his pocket.

Chuck in the cost of phone calls you neither need to make and travel to/from you no longer need to do and the cost is probably closer to £5/week to have a live-in handyman, shopper and cleaner.
  • he can work and earn £100 a week and still get carers,if he can fit some pt work round his caring
