iPhone not recognised on windows 8.

Hi
Im not sure if anyone can help, but I recently bought a new laptop with windows 8. When I have put I tunes on the new laptop, it won't recognise my iphone (which is about 6 months old). The phone never got synced to the iTunes on my old computer as it was ancient, and the software wouldn't recognise it.
I've tried everything I can think of, but when I plug it in it stares that it is not a paired device.
Does any one have any tips?
