It's not my blog Muddy, just the guide I used for my car (sorry should have said that).
Mine runs my Galaxy S3 well in Satnav mode without losing charge and will charge it if all the apps are off. My blanking plate is aluminium so I just bolted the voltage converter to it so it acts as a heat sink.
For multiple ports I'd use one voltage converter per plug as they shut down if demand is more than 1 amp.

Satnav and music will discharge the battery faster than a 500ma charger will power it up. Not sure about games as for obvious reasons I haven't tried that in the car.
You can get 2 amp ciggy lighter to USB adaptors that should be good enough for everything, at least until the iPhone 20 comes out.0 -
