I am taking a trip to Canada (Toronto) and need to know if I am reqired to get insurance or not. Also, do I need anything other than my passport?

You're not REQUIRED to have insurance but you'd be silly not to have it. Hope you're taking clean underwear!

hubbali - the underwear post was because you said "do I need anything other than my passport?" Sorry - didn't mean to frighten you off going to Canada!!!!

Not really on the insurance topic, but if you intend to visit America whilst you are across the water, you will need a visa to go from Canada.

Personally I would get insurance. If you need any treatment at all whilst you are there, it could cost you plenty.

As with any insurance you need to consider covering the worse eventulity yourself should it occur - in the case of traveling abroad I'd imagine this would be the need for medical treatment including the repatronisation to the UK on private travel.

If you can't afford that (I certainly couldn't) you really should take insurance.

Essentially, all you need is the passport, but I always look to take another form of photographic ID (Driving License?) - in case I loose passport or need to take money over a bank counter.

    Hope the trip goes well

Depending on your citizenship you may or may not need a visa... have a look at the link below...

However, it would be worth checking to see if you need any other forms of identifcation for the airline you're travelling with - be aware that for some EU Countries airlines do require formal identifcation other than your passport!
