Barclaycard - Failed DD Fee?

Hi

I have a barclaycard on 0% that im paying monthly, I recently changed main banks and when I tried to change the DD to the new one i encountered a few problems with the online services, after a few days of trying I eventualy rung them up and requested that they change it their side, which they did, but I was informed that as it was only 3 days untill my payment date, my old DD would still be active and I'd need to apay this months bill by another method, which I did there and then.

I've just received this months statment, and it should a failed Direct Debit fee of £12.00. Do I ahve any chance of reclaiming this as I made every effort to change it? And will it affect my 0% Balance transfer rate?

Regards
Paul

Did you change the DD or was it a 'switching' service by a bank when transferring accounts?

It will affect the 0% deal, often it will cancel it out.

However, if it's your first offense, I'd ring them up and explain it as it is. I'm sure they'll see what's happened and it would be unusual not to get away with it, but it should be noted it will be a goodwill gesture on their part. And watch it closely next month to check the DD goes through or you'll be stuffed.

Let us know how you get on
  • Basicly the "switching service" didnt pick up the CC DD for some reason so it was trying to claim from a closed account. When i tried to do it myself the online service kept logging me out.

I was hoping the 0% might be ok as they still received their payment on time (statment confirms this) its jsut the "failed DD fee" thats been added.

tbh, i'll pay the £12.00 and put it down to experience if needed, the 0% is what I'm more concerned about as there is a balance of about £900 quid that I was hoping to pay off over the next year as opposed to asap, thus the BT in the first place.

Nah, don't pay the £12, nothing to lose in querying it. Also, the cancelled 0% deal is an error on my part, I'm getting confused with a missed payment which you actually made over the phone, sorry about that!

That's why I'd never use a switching service, even though there's incentives to, far too many mistakes for my liking. Last time I swapped (Barclay's -to the Co-Op) I did myself over about 3 months making sure I had funds in both. Bit of a pain, but far more control.

Explain that the website was crashing when you attempted to cancel it. I guess they could have cancelled it when you called unless the process of collection had already started.
  • I'm in work at the moent, so calling up is going to have to wait untill this evening, I've snet a message through their secure chat service though, so hopfully will get some joy soon. Fingers crossed!

  • Just thought I'd post a quick update on this>

Got in tocuh with barclaycard last night, they were very pleaseant and helpfull. Offered to refund the £12 fee without me promting and assured me that the 0% promotion was still in place.

All in all, very happy with Barclaycard right now. :)

I'd strongly recommend contacting the cc to let them know what happened - I think you'll find tucked away in your t&c's that there's a clause to the effect that if you miss a payment - a) you'll incur default charges and b) that your 0% will revert to their standard APR for your account. I'd also strongly advise making as much noise as poss and dont let go until you get this reversed otherwise you'll pay through the nose and defeat the object of the 0% BT.
