Budget Honeymoon

Yes exactly as SavingPennies put it, it's not as much about the budget I realise it will cost a few thousand £££ and fine with that as its a memorable experience but on the food front we are very careful what we eat being veggie on top of it all and therefore don't eat out much.
I rather know what's in my pie then to find out later it was something completely different from the box.SavingPennies wrote: »I think what the OP means is she has allergies and therefore cant risk eating in the hotel/restaurants as they wont know how the food has been prepared as it may contain whatever ingredient it is they are allergic to.
As a vegetarian I also restrict my diet when on holiday as I dont know what is in the food especially when menus are not in english. When at home I can prepare things exactly how I want but dont have this luxury on holiday. This would be even more imperitive if it was a life threatening allergy! Doesnt mean they dont eat healthy at home.
I think people should get of thier high horses to be honest it hasnt even got anything to do with the original question.0 -

There are vegatarians looked after in restaurants all over the world. Why do you think you would be any different? Why do you think they would not be able to cater for your needs?Yes exactly as SavingPennies put it, it's not as much about the budget I realise it will cost a few thousand £££ and fine with that as its a memorable experience but on the food front we are very careful what we eat being veggie on top of it all and therefore don't eat out much.

What you have posted here is very much at odds with your first post. So your thread title was not in line with what you actually require. Not a bit of wonder posters were confused and even thought the thread a wind up.0 -

Perhaps not.
No meat on a honeymoon?
I thought that was the point?
I'll get my coat...Current debt: M&S £0(£2K) , Tesco £0 (£1.5K), Car loan 6K (paid off!) Barclaycard £1.5K (interest free for 18 months)0 -

To be honest there are many parts of the world where the vast majority of meals offered in restaurants would be vegetarian as those cultures have developed diets along those lines.
I love to travel and sample the local food. To ignore the local cuisine would be a killer for me.
I don't know what you want to do while away, but if it's a beach holiday type thing then depending on what time of year you would be going much of Asia can offer fantastic culture, beaches and food if you wanted to try it. Outside the beaches the main thing the Maldives offers is good scuba diving. There's plenty of places that offer that if that is an interest of yours.0 -
I think the reason that they want to go self catering is not for us to judge really is it? Those sort of posts don't help the OP or answer their question. Although I agree with others who have asked for a rough budget and month - that is really the info we need to know in order to help. I did loads of research before our honeymoon last summer so might be able to make some suggestions given the right info.
So are we looking for somewhere hot? Beach / relaxing / city break / activities? Budget? Month?
I'm sure some great suggestions will be made once we know a bit more about what you are looking for...0 -

Sadly, for some people, trying to sample the local cuisine could be a literal killer
My OH is going off on holiday to Japan this summer without me and much as I'd love to go I just can't possibly go to a country where I can't get a bit of a grip of the language - I have very severe food allergies and need to know what I am eating and be able to make restaurant staff understand my needs. That said, I don't let it stop me going to places that use the same alphabet as us - I am quite good at languages and can learn enough to explain my allergies and I can learn to recognise words on menus or ingredients labels. But somewhere like Japan I just can't risk. I struggled hugely in Bulgaria and was ill after eating more often than I wasn't. So it is very easy to say 'sampling the local cuisine is great' but for some people it's not a choice.
However, I am now confused as to whether the OP is referring to actual allergies, or to chosen vegetarianism. Confused!0 -
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but have you tried sites like Voyage Prive?
Some of their more exotic destinations are hugely discounted and you can always do a bit of research on the resort and local restaurants to see if they cater for specific food requirements0
