Changing Wireless Password - Orange Brightbox

Hi

I recently had Orange broadband installed for my friend as a gift in her houseshare. However since installation anyone can actually access the internet as the password is on a sticker on the bottom of the router and the router is plugged in in the living room.

I've scoured Orange's help pages and the internet but all I can find is a way to change the admin password, not the actual one to access the internet. So does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

    Remove the sticker.

Or change and disable the SSID broadcast.

Well...if only I'd have thought of that.....

Alas no, I wasn't told it was a problem until today when she called to say all of the house now have the password from the sticker she apparently never knew existed.

So I need an admin way to change it!

Edit: Does this mean there is no physical way to change a Broadband password? And if a person is already connected to the network, wouldn't they still be connected even if I took the steps above?
  • Go into the router as admin, change the admin login password from the default, enable MAC filtering ( link ) and only allow the MAC of your friend's device(s), then reboot the router.

She's still adamant that there must be a way to change the password. Thanks for your help guys! I work for EE so I'll pop over to the department when I'm next in work and find out if they have some sort of hidden way to pacify her

  • Go to the Brightbox advanced set-up in the router. In the main Broadband Settings delete the password, type in the new password, save settings and reboot the router.

So ... if this router is plugged into the phone line, and the friend is the only one with access .... how will the others in the houseshare get any internet access? Do they have separate phone lines?

As far as I'm aware it's like my setup at home...

So the router is plugged in in the living room, me, my parents or brother can connect any device by just getting the router password from the router itself which seems to be what her housemates have done.

She had tried to persuade the housemates to sign up for broadband shared for months, and it's got to the point for Uni now it's really important so I did it for her in my name. So she doesn't see why they should be allowed to just access it when not paying for it at all.

Follow the instructions in above link, but click the ADVANCED SET-UP tab (not basic). You should find the field to change WPA password/key.

To prevent others connecting, you also need to lock down WPS (Wireless Protected Setup), and change the admin password to prevent anyone else logging in and altering/learning settings.
