Why does Garmin satnav see charger as a PC?

Possibly, depending on how it is wired.

But I don't want the satnav plugged in to the cigar lighter socket. That is reserved for a 3 mobile broadband dongle (plugged into exactly the adapter that you link to) so that whenever I stop I can check to see if I have mobile broadband coverage available.

I was aware of this problem so I picked up a used genuine charger from fleabay.

Only slighty more expensive than the cheapo generics.
