I am unexperienced in this field, only being 23 but would like to learn hence my reply below....
I know most people will disagree with this and I'm not debating any of the responses as I agree but for debate, why should his pension have any relevance?
Also, how would the JC know if he has x amount of savings?
Surely, this guy has rightly earned his pension and i dont think its fair that he is not allowed because he has a pension, he should not be discounted from JSA when the job centre is there to help the unemployed find another job? If it was me, I would want help to find another job, it's not just about the money... Or is he entitled to help but not just the money?
Like i said, i am trying to develop my knowledge, not trying to cause any argument! Have I got this completely wrong?
the ammount the Gov say you need to live on is £71 a week so if you have anything more than this you are not getting anything.
People who have savings are in the same boat as people like in the OP's post. They get NI based jsa for 26 weeks then nothing. My sisters friend has been living off her savings for over a year and goes to sit in the libarary as she cant afford to have the heating or lights on etc
PS - the job centre is not there to help people get a new job at allWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You have to show a bank statement and declare all income, savings, pensions etc and they will know if its a pension

Can I ask what the purpose of a job centre is then? I thought it was there to assist and advise on potential jobs?
I wouldn't know, I wouldn't be seen in one.:j

Of course the job centre is there to Help you get a job.
But it is not there to get a job for you.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
you prove you are looking for work and show proof of applications and sign on and get the benefit etc thats all. I have had no help as they can not make someone interview you for a job. They have NO power that way.
Oh, surely that will not help motivate people to find a job. I am guessing, school leavers still living off mum and dad then, would probably go there with "evidence" and claim JSA, waste that on alcohol and then see them again next week where it is a never ending cycle until their parents step up and kick them out at which point, they turn to crime or hopefully, try and actually find a job?
Surely it would make sense for a job centre to liaise with potential employers to help young people at least to get into a apprenticeship or some sort of job instead of saying "thanks for that, see you next week"
This is ridiculous...:j

Six pages and nobody's explained that contributions based JSA, although not means tested, is affected by having an occupational pension!
From the CAB,
"Contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance is not affected by any savings you have. However, if you have part-time earnings or an occupational or personal pension, this may affect how much contribution-based JSA you get. For example, the amount of contribution-based JSA that you get is cut pound for pound for any occupational pension that is over £50 a week. If you earn too much, you will not get contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance at all."0 -

They aren't all on the dole and those that are can not be said that they spend their JSA on booze. Geez!!
Liase with employers? Yeah and they get the time to do that? Have any power to make them interview peeople on jsa? Nope sorry to dissapoint you there, they do not do this at all. We’ve had to remove your signature. School leavers are ineligible for JSA and are given help with apprenticeships etc by Connexions and other careers services.0 -
