Removal costs for first army house.

Hi wonder if anyone could help please, we have been offered our first army house after getting married. We are going to be moving over a 100 miles away as before we were wed hubby just came home at weekends to my hometown. With it being our first move i was told by someone our costs for removal vans etc may be covered. Does anyone know if this is correct ?. And if it is who do i contact to deal with it , many thanks.

If your husband has not been assigned to a new unit, he will not be entitled to removal expenses.

07.0207. Moves for Non-Service Reasons. Moves made for non-Service reasons are not funded at public expense. Service personnel who opt to move accommodation mid-assignment for personal reasons, including first setting up of home, are not entitled to a mid-assignment move of PE at public expense. For details of one exception, for the move of family PE at public expense after a break up of marriage or civil partnership, see paragraph 07.0205r. In all other circumstances authority for mid-assignment moves at public expense on compassionate, welfare or medical grounds may be requested through the SPVA PACCC.
  • Ah thankyou, no he wont be moving units. Just from single accom to married. Does anyone know of any cheap long distance removals companies ?. I have a feeling this will cost us a bomb :-(.

Britannia are pretty good. Not sure about cheap though. Might be worth hiring a luton if your hubby can drive one and taking it one way. I expect there will be a couple of blokes willing to give you a hand from his unit for a couple of crates of beer.

  • We ended up paying over £1000 when first married and posted to Germany. However, after we moved we were told that if my husband had transferred his post to my address before we moved ie bank statements, credit card etc we could have counted this as our first move (even if he did only stay at weekends) and then when we took up a married quarter this would have been our second move and would therefore been funded. Think your husband has to change his details on JPA to be able to do this. Fingers crossed this works for you.

Best bet is to get in touch with the QMs dept and borrow their van and get a couple of mate to help, chances are at worst it'll cost you a few crates of beer and a couple of trips in the van. Diesel may be free depending on how the QMs dept does things.

If the QMs don't have a van try the MT and get an SV/DAF
