Nationwide card reader now mandatory to login?

Seems like Nationwide have now made the card reader mandatory to even login?

If so what a truly moronic thing to do. Now everyone is forced to carry their Nationwide card + a card reader everywhere they go if they might want to login to online banking.

A supposed security measure that actually substantially reduces security.

    It's a pity.
However, AFAIK this is the the only reliable protection against sofisticated 'man in the browser' viruses.

I've just managed to log on by using my memorable data - no different than usual.

Not true you don't need your card reader every time. You can log in using your memorable data . It is an option on the right hand side. It says Memorable Data with a key under neath and Login using memorable data. I do this rather than use card reader every time .

There is a box on the right hand side of the screen that allows you to use memorable data. Used it twice this weekend.

    Or a pitA.

AccountUnity chokes when trying to log in - - though as people have commented, you can click on " Login using memorable data" and Accountunity continues to log you in automatically.

Probably the same for YBS Money Manager and the First Direct implemantation of Accountunity, too.

That's where it's always been; it hasn't moved.
