audio gone on laptop...

There is audio only through the headphones on this laptop. It's an Inspiron and recently I had the motherboard replaced. Could it be as a result of that?
It did not have good sound before but not silence!
If it is related to the repair I may be covered by the warranty.
Alternatively (I have checked the settings via Control Panel; the mic is set to quite high) has anyone got any ideas on how to restore the sound if possible?
