Help: Dvd drive not working after installing windows 8

Hi all.
I have just upgraded my Toshiba Laptop Satelite L500-1XC to Windows 8.
The dvd drive no longer works, seems the driver not compatible with win 8.
I am hoping I can buy a new dvd drive that will work with win8, I do want a internal drive not external.
Is there anyone out there that can point me in the right direction please?
Please bear in mind I am not techy.

Thank you.

Does it not read any discs you put in the drive at all?

Toshiba support for a driver .

Hmmm, tried a CD? If there is no power to it at all that does seem odd. As it should power open even without drivers.

When you open the drive there should be a button normally hidden by the drive plate which allows you to pop the drive out, most drives are pretty standard, given the age of the laptop it's going to be a SATA drive you're going to need.
  • Its getting power, the red light flashes when I press eject/open button.

  • This is the message I am getting from device manager:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

Delete in it the Device Manager and restart the laptop. W8 may then find it or then try manually searching via Windows Update.

This problem can be fixed on a desktop sometimes by unplugging/plugging the DVDROM but that's not an easy option here.
  • Ok, here goes.
