Hope somebody can help me out here - I keep getting these annoying 'ads' popping up, offering me wallpapers, games, ringtones etc. I have already got a pop-up blocker turned on and have run virus scans but they keep coming up. It's driving me nuts!
I remember this happened before and I found out how to stop them from this forum - it was something you did via the control panel or the My computer tab, but I can't find that post now! Does anyone know what I can do?
Any help much appreciated. By the way, the pc is running fine apart form these ads.
thanks!

My initial 3 thoughts are...
1. If you use Firefox as your browser it comes with an effective pop up blocker. More info here ...
http://firefox.wlkr.net/firefox-popup.html
2. There are other free pop up blockers such as Panicware ...
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,8060-order,1-page,1-c,adblockers/description.html or ...
http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree.html (has a free version and a "paid for" version)
3. the pop ups could be related to a malware infection of some sort. If you want us to check this out for you then do this ...
Download a self-extracting copy of HijackThis from here …….
http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/hijackthis_sfx.exe
Save it to your Desktop.
Double-click on the file hijackthis_sfx.exe file and it will self-extract into its own folder ……
C:\Program Files\HijackThis
Go to this folder and run the hijackthis.exe file.
From the menu click on "Do a system scan and save a logfile".
Copy and paste the HJT logfile to this thread. More specific removal instructions will follow.
