Name Change - Few bits I'm confused with

Hi,

I'm considering my surname to my Husbands which I knwo I don't need to do by deed poll. I'd also like to add my maiden name as a further middle name (not double barrelled). From everything I'm reading this seems pretty easy to do but I'm confused about what to do once it's done for example, how much time do you have to change a passport? I have several years left on mine so would lose out but I'm wondering if it HAS to be changed or if it could just run it's course?

I'm also very likely to forget to change it in some places so is this ok or would the old name be defunct and not really not exist. For example, I'm due to give birth in May so if I leave the NHS records as the old name but I've changed by deed poll will that cause problems?

At the moment I'm thinking leaving it until June and swallowing the passpoprt cost/loss but it would be great if I could do it earlier and just change everything as and when I remember/get round to it.

I got married in July and my passport is still in my maiden name - as long as I book flights in that name it won't be a problem.

No idea about the NHS part though, sorry. Congrats on the baby though :)

With regards to the NHS, it won't cause problems but be prepared to have your notes/appointments/letters/prescriptions etc etc made out in a whole variety of names.

There is no need to change your passport until it runs out. Just remember to book all plane tickets (if you go on holiday) in the same name as is currently on your passport.

I changed my name in 2001 but never got round to changing it with the NHS, for various reasons. It's never been a problem. I use my married name for everything else, and my maiden name for the NHS (which I'm using a LOT at the moment).

With your passport I think you're fine so long as any travel tickets are booked in the same name. They just need to match.

Your passport you can use in maiden name as long as holiday booked in maiden name but remember tell your insurance company what name is where so they can't cop out a claim
With your passport they will let you add 9 months worth of current one plus ten years got new one so you can change it early
I found it easy enough changing everything over just look through your purse and find all the cards and update them
