Seriously, please stop spouting drivel. Windows owns no part of the bios and has no relation to its operation period. the ONLY thing which may have changed is if the laptop is a new OEM laptop then the windows 8 key will be built into the BIOS. that's it.

And your continual "windows 8 sufferer" record is long broken....
It would appear that Penrhyn stated he didn't realise that it was a W8 specific laptop, so you are not really fair since the problem is the fact that the laptop probably has UEFI (which is not BIOS) , and it also has GPT support rather than just bog standard "DOS" ie MBR partition tables. However none of this sniping is going to help the thread owner. I guess as Alec has already stated
Thanks for the replies. I will just delete all of the partitions and let Windows do it's thing.

There is still no evidence to suggest it is a win8 laptop. It's very likely that he received a free upgrade to win8 since his purchase (similar to what HP were doing) if you bought a win7 laptop within the last year.

You'd probably do better putting the Windows 8 media in the bin and sticking with Windows 7, just my view having been a W8 sufferer.:D
Ditto that ... Windows 8 does my head in.

Apologies, I thought that was established. It is a W8 laptop, never had W7 installed. Also UEFI.

OP, in the Win8 setup, select each partition and delete it till only one remains. By all means create a 2nd partition for your data, but Win8 will the rest.

Many thanks. I deleted all partitions until the only entry was the unallocated space. I then let W8 install.
