where do I stand, WICKES kitchen guarantee.

A long story short,

We had a kitchen fitted by Wickes Oldham using one of their installers. Inoticed after 3 years that 9 of doors on the kitchens had bowed and were faultyI thought this wouldn’t be an issue because they offered a 5 year warrant (thisis now 15 years on current sales)

Wickes sent out the manufacturer of the units to look at the doors andagreed to replace all the 9 and had them delivered to our house. At the momentthey are just waiting to be fitted.

I re-contacted Wickes Oldham to inform them that the manufacturer had beenout and had replaced the units and they were on site waiting to be fitted.

They informed me that they would not be fitting the units for free and that Iwould have to pay for the cost of the fitter’s time.

They told me that the fitter’s workmanship is only guaranteed for 2 yearsand the rest of the warranty is for the physical product if faulty.

And as the fitters workmanship is not at fault so they won’t pay.

This does not make sense to me, It’s like selling a car with a warranty andwhen if it breaks they just handing you the part and expecting to fit ityourself.

I have had nothing but trouble with Wickes in Oldham their customer serviceis terrible I can’t even count up how many unreturned phone calls I have made.

Where do I stand with this? Opinions please

    Hi
While I am no expert in any way regarding your situation I can see it from Wicke's point, they fitted the units and to date there is no problem with the work that their fitter did. The fault is IMO down to the manufacture of the unit doors and they have given you replacement under the contract {be it 5 or 25 years}, as there is no fault in anything fittingwise wickes have forefilled their contract and any "extra" work {ie the re fitting of faulty doors} would not be down to them. As far as I can see it the only choices you have is 1} contact the people that replaced the doors and request that {as they were substandard} pay to have them fitted. 2}except that Wickes are not going to do anything and get someone in to fit them or 3} fit them yourself
    As I said I am no expert on this situation but I do not think you have any other choice {unless someone else knows better}

    I've been Money Tipped!
They're really easy to fit. I'm sure someone in the family would be able to do so with even a modicum of common sense.

I wouldn't get a Wickes kitchen if you paid me.

Technically the store are right, in that the install warranty is for two years, and they have replaced the doors f.o.c. under warranty. They are not liable to have them fitted as well, and it was not the fitters workmanship that was at fault.

Sometimes, though a little goodwill goes a long way....

I see what you mean, I think the manufacturer should pay but I didn't buy them from the manufacturer I bought them and had them fitted by wickes.

They should do all the negotiating not me.

If it was me i would drag them into a small claims and let a judge decide..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

Which would be a waste of time.

The guarantee is against the actual door, not a fitted door, hence Wicks are correct.
  • The store are correct in saying that they are not liable for the cost of re fitting the doors, however i would write to their head office stating your case. Wickes are unlikely to want any bad publicity as they are battling with the other major kitchen suppliers for business at the moment and as they are more expensive than most a lot of their business is through word of mouth.
