Which Credit card for Petrol?

Hi

I do a lot of buisness miles for work and claim my petrol back usually about £200 a month.
What i want to do is pay for my petrol ona credit card and then pay it all off in one go at the begging of the following month.

Are there any cards that i can earn cash back or any other perks out there?

Thanks for your help

I'd go for the Amex platinum - 5% cashback on anything for 3 months (there is a ceiling in terms of the maximum cashback) and then 1.25% afterwards. However I do not know if Amex is widely accepted at petrol stations and this assumes you spend £3k/year which you should if you add shopping.

At the top of this page, under the thread title is a quick link to the best cashback cards. Suggest you take a read of it so you can see the advantages and disadvantages of it compared to similar products as it may be more suitable for you to use a combo of the Capital One 5% card for 3 months and then the Santander cashback card afterwards.

I use Capital1 giving 1% cash back on ALL purchases.

You may want to consider ASDA card giving 1% cash back at Asda stores or Tesco card which gives rewards or Santander 123 which has a monthly fee.

Aqua REWARD credit card reward should do the job, 3% cashback up to a usage of around £3300 per annum.

Only £100 maximum cashback though, paid at the end of the year. Best to do a 5% one first and go for that later. I got my Capital One promotional cashback monthly and £100 before Xmas sure was nice :)

OP mentions £200 per month so the aqua card would be fine for this, doesn't preclude them having a second card for their own spending cashback.
    I think....
  • There are many cards that will give you perks but you need to decide what you want.

Cashback is good but most are either a very low percentage (~1%) or have a very low cap (~£100)

Reward cards can be worth more to you and typically are uncapped but that depends on if there is a card with a reward that will be of use to you

The card doesn't exclusively have to the petrol paid on it as it looks like the OP is submittting expense claims that are paid into their bank account rather than the company settling a monthly card bill on their behalf (or issuing the OP with their own company card). The OP can accumulate cashback elsewhere too. Better to maximise the best available rate and then switch to the lower one with a lower rate after, do you not agree?

5%/month for 3 months and then the Aqua card brings more reward - based on the quoted petrol spend alone without factoring in any other purchases they would make, would pay £30 cashback over the 3 months with immediate access when paid. Much better to do this then revert to Aqua. The same 3 months on aqua brings in £18 payable at the year end.
