Windows 8 won't open Internet applications.

Hi
I have an Acer Aspire laptop that is running Windows 8.
I've been using the Internet without any problems (chrome and explorer) but since backing the system up on memory card I now can't load any internet applications- I've also tried the apps that are on the front screen like eBay and Facebook and they won't load either.
I have a wifi connection (full signal) and I've also tried an alternative wifi connection but nothing. I've done the Internet trouble shooter but that said everything was ok.
I'm stuck now because I only use it for the Internet!
Please help!!

Nothing at all really
It has the egg timer going round but nothing else happens.
Then after a few minutes I get a page unresponsive message in Chrome.
In the other apps nothing at all happens.Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.
