nPower Gas Price Reduction Con!!!!!

I've just had my gas bill (online v7 IGT tariff) from nPower with a couple of leaflets boasting about the fact that they have reduced their gas price from 1st May.
However, on close inspection, the figures are as follows;
Prior to 1st May prices: First 1523 kWh at 4.698p / kWh, then 2.177p / kWh
Post 1st May prices: First 1523 kWh at 5.068p / kWh, then 1.915p / kWh.
This means they have actually put the price up by 7.8% for most users! To save money you must consume more than 3673kWh(328 cu M) per quarter. This is lot of gas and represents a quarterly bill of £125.
I think this is something MSE Martin may want to investigate.

It's certainly a con to call that a reduction, when in fact it's a combination of an increase AND a reduction. But £40 a month isn't that much gas really.0

The paperwork is incorrect. npower igt sol 7 rate is the same as their new standard prices. Your prices are the same! they have just not included the igt cost in your old prices and your old prices include vat and your newprices exclude VAT. In actual fact though your gas price has not changed
multiply 1.915 by 1.05 (5% VAT) and this is 2.177.
the threshold is actually 1143 per quarter (billed varying on when you use) or 4572 per annum as in your contract.
I would definitely switch the paperwork is unclear your prices have not dropped and they are cheaper tariffs available. npower wont switch you to sol 6. They have just changed you to their standard tariff for gas and elec with igt costs included in gas. Try Atlantic gas no igt charge much cheaper rate or Click 2 no igt charge electric fantastic gas ok0
